Expanded connections to soil, land, community and territory
Artist-facilitator and cultural producer Ela Spalding presents her ongoing project Suelo—Spanish for “soil”—a multidisciplinary residency program organized by Estudio Nuboso that uses the topics of soil, land, and territory to articulate the natural and cultural value of vulnerable environments, while promoting individual and community empowerment. Spalding’s case study is comprised of materials and reflections gathered since the pilot event in 2014, which took place in Panama—a place of both outstanding biodiversity and urgently unsustainable development. As highlighted during The Shape of a Practice, the project’s aim to profoundly reconnect people with themselves, others and nature is ever more crucial in a post-COVID-19 world.
